Link Building for New Casino Affiliate Sites: The First 6 Months

Rising bar chart from month 1 to month 6 showing a link building plan for a new casino affiliate site

Link building for casino affiliates goes wrong most often in the first six months. A new domain gets a burst of exact-match links to a “best online casinos” page, nothing moves, more links follow, and the site ends up with a profile it has to clean before it can rank. This is the month-by-month plan we use instead: what to fix before the first link, how fast to build, which pages to point links at, and how to phase spend. For the managed version of this plan, see our iGaming affiliate link building service.

Links amplify what is already on the site. On a new affiliate domain, that means the site has to look like a real publisher before outreach starts. Publishers vet you too, and good gambling sites refuse to link to thin affiliate shells.

Google’s guidance on writing high-quality reviews asks for evidence of your own experience, quantitative measurements, and benefits and drawbacks “based on your own original research.” Casino reviews built on screenshots of real deposits, withdrawal timings you tested and named authors meet that bar. Rewritten operator copy does not.

Before outreach, aim to have these live:

  • Ten to fifteen in-depth reviews of operators licensed in your target market
  • Two or three comparison hubs (for example, “fast withdrawal casinos” or “PayPal casinos UK”)
  • At least one linkable asset, such as a withdrawal-time tracker or bonus wagering calculator
  • About, author and editorial policy pages with real people behind them
  • A responsible gambling page with 18+ messaging and links to support services in each market

Technical and compliance basics

Get indexing, internal linking and outbound link handling right first. Tracked operator links are commercial, so qualify them as Google’s outbound link guidance describes, with rel=”sponsored” as the preferred value for paid placements.

Compliance matters for links too. The UK Gambling Commission tells licensees they are “primarily responsible” for breaches by affiliates and third parties, in its guidance on affiliates. Operators vet affiliate partners for that reason, and a site promoting unlicensed brands will struggle to get approved by the programmes that pay best.

New affiliates usually point every link at the money page. That is the fastest way to build an anchor profile that looks bought. Spread links across three tiers instead.

Page typeExampleShare of early linksTypical anchors
Homepageyoursite.comHigh in months 1 to 3Brand name, naked URL
Linkable assets and guidesWithdrawal-time tracker, RTP explainerHighDescriptive, partial match
Comparison hubsFast withdrawal casinos UKMedium from month 3Partial match, topic phrases

Head-term money pageBest online casinos UKLow until month 4Mostly partial; exact-match on strongest placements only

The homepage and guides build domain trust. Internal links then pass that authority to the commercial pages you care about. Google’s link best practices say every page you care about should be linked from at least one other page on your site, with descriptive anchor text. On a casino affiliate, that means every guide links to the relevant hub, and every hub links to its reviews.

Anchor mix for a new domain

Google describes good anchor text as “descriptive, reasonably concise, and relevant” and warns against cramming in every related keyword. For a new casino affiliate, keep the majority of anchors branded or URL-based. Use partial-match phrases for guides and hubs, and save exact-match anchors like “best online casinos UK” for the strongest one or two placements in a quarter.

There is no published safe number for link velocity. What we look for is a steady, explainable pattern: links arriving at a pace that matches the content you publish and the attention a young site could plausibly earn. Sudden spikes on a three-month-old domain, all with commercial anchors, are the pattern to avoid.

  1. Month 1: foundations only. Finish content, fix technical issues, set up tracking. Collect brand-name citations such as social profiles and genuine industry listings. No paid placements yet.
  2. Month 2: first editorial links. Three to five guest posts on relevant gambling or sports publishers, pointing at the homepage and guides. Branded anchors.
  3. Month 3: build to a steady rhythm. Five to eight links. Start pointing a few partial-match anchors at comparison hubs.
  4. Month 4: introduce money-page links. Keep the same pace. Add one or two links from your strongest new publishers to the head-term page.
  5. Month 5: fill gaps. Compare your referring domains with the sites ranking on page one for your target terms. Close topical gaps and add a niche edit or two on ranking pages.
  6. Month 6: review and scale. Check which pages moved, which links are still indexed, and where your anchors now sit. Scale only the pages that respond.

Consistency matters more than volume. Four good links every month for six months builds a more natural profile than twenty-four links in month two.

Budget phasing

Phase spend so the money follows proof, not hope. The figures below use our published rates: $350 a link for DR 30+ gambling publishers and $500 for DR 50+.

PhaseMonthsFocusExample spend
Foundations1Content, assets, technical fixesContent budget, no links
Seed2 to 3DR 30+ guest posts to homepage and guides4 to 6 links a month at $350
Build4 to 5Mix of DR 30+ and a few DR 50+ links to hubs and money pagesDR 30+ package ($3,500) per phase, plus selected DR 50+ links at $500
Scale6 onwardMore DR 50+ links to pages already respondingDR 50+ package ($5,000) where data supports it

Spending most of the budget on content in month one feels slow. It is what makes the links in months two to six worth paying for. If content is the bottleneck, our casino content team writes reviews and guides built for both readers and outreach. For a breakdown of what moves price in this niche, read our iGaming link building price guide.

The sources that work for a young casino affiliate are not exotic. They are just slower than buying a PBN package.

  • Guest posts on gambling and sports publishers. The backbone of the first six months. Our iGaming guest posting service places 800 to 1,200 word articles, live in 10 to 14 days after approval.
  • Niche edits on ranking pages. Useful from month four, once you have hubs worth linking to.
  • Data and tool assets. A withdrawal-time tracker updated monthly gives journalists and other affiliates something to cite.
  • Industry relationships. Affiliate conferences and forums lead to partnerships, quotes and co-authored content.

What to avoid is covered in Google’s spam policies: automated link building, low-quality directories, widely distributed footer links and paid links that pass ranking credit. The same page warns against third-party casino content hosted on unrelated sites to borrow their ranking signals. Do not build your early profile on parasite pages that could be deindexed.

FAQ

There is no fixed number. It depends on your market and how competitive your target pages are. A steady four to eight relevant links a month, pointed at the right pages, is a sensible starting point we use for UK and regulated European markets, adjusted once you compare yourself with page-one competitors.

Start with the homepage and informational assets. They earn links more naturally and support branded anchors. Pass that authority to money pages through internal links, then add direct money-page links from month four.

Can I use expired domains to launch a casino affiliate faster?

Google’s spam policies list expired domain abuse as a violation and use casino content on a former school’s domain as an example. Rebuilding an expired domain mainly for its old links is a risk we do not take on for clients.

When should I expect rankings to move?

Long-tail review and comparison pages often move first, and head terms take longer. Judge the campaign at month six on which pages responded, then put budget behind those.
